Why Is My VCR Doing This?

I have a Magnavox VCR/DVD duplicator. The VCR spits the tape out after about 5 seconds. Why?
Hey smart @$$ Britney: I know what year it is. I burn old tapes on to DVD. I also live VCR tapes. I have a record player and tape player too. I like them and I dont do as Im told. Im not a sheep, little sweetheart.

There is a cassette-In switch that must be actuated before any other function is allowed to run. If, for whatever reason, misalignment of the tape cartridge, misalignment of the cassette tray, or some malfunction in the circuitry, the switch would not be actuated and the cassette tray would be returned to the unloaded position.

There is also the possibility that something is still in micro-memory that conflicts with the physical situation of your deck. If that’s the case, there might be an easy fix. Remove your unit from any electrical power and let it sit for an hour. I suggest an hour because some units have a ‘maxi-cap’ that stores voltage for power outages for like 20 – 30 minutes, so you don’t have to go through all your clock and other settings again. Then plug it back in. That may be all that’s needed to force the micro-controller to reset. After that, you’re kind of at the mercy of a repair tech.
