Replaces Rdr
Sony DVD Recorded needs DVD-Rom replaced?
My father has a Sony rdr-gx300 DVD Recorder. It stopped playing discs. Either the laser is dirty or out of alignment, atlast that’s my assumption. A DVD cleaner would not work. I opened the case and noticed it appears to utilize a IDE based burner that you would find in a computer. I haven’t removed anything to get a better view of it yet, but it looks like a standard burner unit.
This was a nice unit when it worked and would like to fix it. Can I use any standard internal IDE burner for a computer in this unit? Is their a list of specific ones that do work? My parents simply do not have a lot of money and I know the newer ones are not as good.
Also is it possible to actually upgrade these to use a RAM burner or DL burner or even a harddrive (w/firmware hack?)?
