Is it worth getting component cable for a mid-range projector?
My Digital Projector is an Epson EMP-TN10H.
Its not a high performance Projector, but it easily meets my standards for a great cinematic experience. Currently it is hooked upto my DVD player via a gold plated S-Video cable. Now I hear for optimal quality you should use Component Cables.
What I want to know is, should I buy component cables for it. I know the differtence is great for high end HD projectors, but how significant an improvement will i see on mine?
Is it worth the 15-20quid???
This business of high-end cables has a lot of ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ attached to it. Provided your cable is adequately screened, and has reasonable contacts and a reasonable construction, then you will be fine. Yours sounds fine, it’s been gold-flashed, and seems to work OK.
I have heard intolerable amounts of guff about cables in general, particularly cables in audio/visual applications. I once heard some self-appointed hi-fi notary going on about cables, and he said he could identify what the insulation (not the conductor…. the insulator) was on a given cable just by listening to said cable in use. This is plain bollocks, and plain conductor snobbery.
Gold flash, OFC copper, well screened, flexible insulation…. you’ll be fine, anything more is just snobbery.
