how turn a rear projection tv into a front projection tv?
alright i have this old 50 inch rear projection tv, but i really need a normal projector so does anyone know the dangers of opening up the tv or how compact the actual projector is?or if there are any online instructions on how to do so?
there are rear projection CRT, DLP, HDila, LCD and LCoS tvs. Each are totally unique. None are designed to do what you are asking, but all could be done. You are probably needing to cut the top of the tv off, remove the mirrors and screen. Of course there is a good likelihood that the picture will be backwards.
The CRT would be the hardest and almost totally improbable. You need to deal with focus and convergence since the three colors come from different sources and angles. The rest of the formats all come from one lens assembly so only focus will be the barrier.
Some DLP and LCD may have the ability in the service menu to correct the reversed picture, but I cannot help you without a brand and model #
dangers in CRT is the 30,000 volts to the picture tubes. All the rest involve high voltage to the ballast and lamp as well as bypassing the interlock switches. Plus the fact that you will need to cover all points where the light is escaping from various areas in the light engine.
The amount of work involved doesn’t;t justify the fact that you can buy a small projector used for a couple hundred bucks. And when your done this is going to be ugly. and you will need to get to the remote sensor and the keypad.
